Invisalign is a revolutionary way to help patients get even, straight teeth without noticeable metal braces. This form of teeth-straightening is virtually undetectable. It’s also far less painful than braces.
The Invisalign system uses aligners (like fitted mouth guards) made of strong, clear plastic that gradually guide the teeth into perfect alignment. Unlike metal braces, the aligners have no wires or brackets.
This method is ideal for the treatment of:
How does it work?
During the patient’s first appointment, impressions are taken and sent to the Invisalign lab, where a set of customized aligners for both the top and bottom teeth are developed. The aligners slide directly over the teeth and are typically worn full-time, except when eating or drinking, for 12 to 48 months. This is about the same amount of time a patient would wear traditional metal braces.
Every two weeks, as the teeth shift into place, the aligners are replaced with a fresh set created for that specific stage in the alignment process. This frequent change of aligners provides less force on teeth than traditional braces which are adjusted every six weeks but with greater force.
Aside from being more comfortable and less visible than traditional braces, the removable aligners allow for better tooth brushing and flossing providing better overall oral health.
Although Invisalign is an excellent alternative to traditional braces, it may not be the best option for certain tooth placement such as teeth that require vertical movement.
At the consultation stage, all questions will be answered to determine if the Invasilgn process is the best solution.
